Hi Sally. I've been a committed fan since seeing some of your films in college in the mid-90s. Quasi was the one that really did me in. (I'm so happy you've uploaded so many shorts to youtube, thank you!...and I think that's where I found your blog.)

Anyway, I live in Pasadena so of course we go to the parade. I had to laugh when I saw your picture of the 'mother nature' float, because it is the single image I'll remember from this parade.

I was standing there facing east, watching only what was going, not what was coming — (some of the marching bands were so funny)...then I turned to look back and all of a sudden there was this towering benevolent nightmare out of nowhere, looming over me, blotting out the sun! The timing was perfect and I shrieked.

Happy New Year!

Hey Julie, Your note was so amazing, because that was EXACTLY, I mean EXACTLY, our experience. We'd gotten there about 4 am, and were just in a dumb and numb state and then....
"all of a sudden there was this towering benevolent nightmare out of nowhere, looming over me, blotting out the sun!" That's just how it was!

And Happy New Year to you and everyone else who stumbles by here!

Ha! Very funny. I don't suppose the float designers intended for her to frighten parade-goers but I think it is fitting!
