To me, the farmers' market is hell on earth. Mobs of people. The sun beating down on piles of fruits and vegetables. I'd rather go to Home Depot. I'd rather go to the Sports Basement! I'd almost rather have a root canal.

Yikes. People must be much more intense about vegetables in San Fran. I'm sure they are. I get to my market at opening, and can get a 25 pound bag of carrots for $5.00, then I buy 10 pounds of oranges. Right now the plums are wondrous, and vegetables and orchids always a treat to look at. I searched through my comp pix to find a shot of an amazing purple cauliflower from last year but couldn't find it.

I went to the farmer's market yesterday, too! It was the first day it was open in our town. After I left, I thought, why didn't I get a photo for a blog? But there were only a few farmers there (I'm hoping because it was the first day). We've had such weird weather, a bad freeze after everything bloomed and now this terrible drought; I've heard it's likely to drive many farmers out of the business.

P.S. At the farmer's market, I did get a little weirded out because an old guy wearing a red, white and blue stars and stripes cowboy hat said I almost ran over him in my Prius (I have no idea what he was talking about), and it kinda ruined my whole day.

At our farmer's market, it's a lot of zucchini and yellow summer squash. Boring! We love the market at the ferry building in SF on Saturdays; we get to see how the other half lives.
