Along the Way

I've been trying to get comfortable with Corel Painter Essentials 4 software. I'm not comfortable yet! This is a background sketch for the cartoon I'm working on. Some parts work better than others. I like the bush and the building just left of it. I just discovered that Academic Superstore has a fire sale price on the professional full feature set of Painter, Painter X. Instead of $400 plus it's $89! So I sprang for it. Too bad the sale wasn't running when I bought the junior version.

This image is an auto paint picture of the interior of a Fry's store. I brightened it in Photoshop.

It too makes a nice background, but the problem there is matching it for other angles. Also, I can't remember how the heck I got this expressionistic effect!

Now you're talking! (Cartoon sketch for background.) I like the colors and I'd like to live in that building you mention. Also I like the building in the background on the right. Do you have to be a teacher or a student to buy from the Academic Superstore?

My huge 100 + lb. ancient monitor died day before yesterday. I ordered a 24 in. iMac today. (I had to tell somebody.) I haven't mentioned this purchase on my blog or to Tom. I'm afraid this is one reason we need marriage counseling. Maybe I should have signed up for a class and checked into the Academic Superstore first.

Linda, I checked and Academic S. doesn't sell monitors, so don't feel guilty. I got a 20" monitor a year and a half ago, and it really wasn't as big as I would like, so enjoy your new one. Sounds great. Academic Superstore works if you have any affiliation to a school or university. Not all the software is at discounts like Painter X, but it's always a good place to get software cheap, if you can wrangle it.

My big monitor died a week or two ago, so Pat wants to get me a 24-inch iMac. I used to worry about his spending so much on computer equipment, but now I figure, how many years do we have left before assisted living, so why not spend a little now?

I love the effect you got with this picture. Reminds me of painters like Egon Schiele and Hundertwasser among others. I've always liked expressionism.

Wow, Painter X! Good find and good background picture! One thing I like about your work is the whimsical buildings and landscapes.

Sal! Pat WANTS you to get a 24" iMac and you're worried about spending the moolah? Obviously we're friends because opposites attract. I'm in trouble now, because my old huge monitor started working again after the storm! I"m moving James Brown, Jr. as far away from the old thing as possible.

That's funny ... I was just coming back to say the 2nd image reminded me of Hundertwasser.

Namowal, do you have Painter X? Linda, sounds as if your equipment gets under spells or something. Sal, you're so lucky to have a man what wants to spend!

Linda, I'm not worried any more about spending on computers--used to worry years ago. Now I just want him to enjoy life and buying computers while he can.

Hi Sally,
I only have Painter 8. Even then I only use a small percentage of its bells and whistles.
