At the Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell, Ky, you can enter a room where every seat is taken by a ventrilloquist dummy. Sounds rather creepy.
This picture fell out of a folder today. I'm going to be giving a speech and presentation in a few weeks and I thought I should review some notes from when I used to do this sort of thing.
I found one letter I'd written in 1991 which was definitely classic psychic Sal.
"Animation is an intriguing medium; the idea of making your drawings move is irresistible. I think in the future there will be an electronic medium not yet devised in which animation will play a prominent role.
Avant garde? Sometimes I think a.g. is the desire of a group of young people to meet in strange places and wear strange hats and feel bad and inspired and as if they're the only ones who really know."
Must have been taking the smart pills that day!

Sally, can you say where you'll be speaking? If I could go I promise I wouldn't sit in the audience drinking beer and then dropping the can so it clanked all the way down to the stage.
The letter is simply magnificent. I want to get together with you & N & S & K & J & J in a strange place. I want us to wear strange hats, even though you say you don't look good in hats--you can wear your new sunglasses--and I want to feel really bad and inspired.
i want to join
i have lot of hats!
at first when I saw "dummies," I recalled the last presidential race. I wasn't sure how aware Dad was in his dementia. I asked him, "You know there's a presidential race (Bush and Kerry)?" He indicated that he did, able to sputter just one word: "DUMMIES!"
Thank you so much for introducing me to the Vent Haven Museum! What a place! And yes, your note was very prophetic. When I was tracing out my first cel animation in school I never could have imagined the wonders of Flash. But thank GOD for it.
Yeah! Break out the strange hats!
Your old letter hit the nail on the head. I remember in the 80s and early 90s that many experts were skeptical about the extent that computer animation could integrate with the classical, hand-drawn stuff.
