My sister- Carol Cruikshank- was a very talented artist, even from a young age. I scanned one of her sketchbooks and put it up on Flickr- it plays as a slideshow

She drew this when she was 15 or 16 in a little booklet tied together with yarn. This was in 1957! So many of the ideas are still fresh. She died twenty years ago. Today's her birthday.

Sally,
This work is amazing. Carol taught art to my sister(s?) and me one summer when she was a teenager. I remember the world opening up when she had us stand inches in front of a tree and take a long time really looking at the colors in the bark. Thanks for posting this. Joan Howarth
Joan, I'm so glad you saw this. I was in that same art class and remember that same thing about looking at the colors in the bark.
I love your sister's book. She was a free spirit.
That was enlightening.
This is incredible.
What an amazing spirit! And great illustrations. Your sister was ahead of her time.
This is one of those cases where the internet seems wonderful. Now people are experiencing and enjoying her work from so long ago.
Beautiful! A teenage beat poem.
