A Bear for Namowal

Blogger pal Namowal (look at her name in a mirror), has a cute ongoing comic strip involving martians and a scorpion, among other things!, at tail o' the rat.

This cute painting was one of a series of bear paintings my mother's cousin did back in the 40's for a children's book they were working on together that never got published. I love the use of color. There are six illustrations in the series. My mother gave them to me.

I've been so curious about Namonwal's name. Did she tell you or did you figure it out? The blue in the bears' fur is wonderful. I like that bottom tooth too. Now I want to read the story and see the other pictures.

I was so pleased when I had a blazing mirror moment and saw what namowal looked like backwards. I was having a hard time typing it until then. Some people, like Will Shortz for example, spot these things right away.

I may try to take pictures of all illos and put them on greeting cards or something like that as they are quite beautiful and the story isn't much. (sorry, mom!)

Aw, those bears are cute. Thanks for posting them and thanks for the plug! Your mother's cousin has a good eye for light and reflection. I also like the colors on the crab- the pastel green with the red and yellow detail. Nice
