My Friend Flicka

I found a pile of my drawings from my sister's summer art school class, held in our backyard in 1957. This is a picture I drew of my favorite tv show, "My Friend Flicka." It was a Dumont tv.

I love this drawing.

That brings back memories. Why is it the parents on Flicka never seemed to learn anything? They were always slightly chagrined at the end.

I find it interesting that included the television in the picture. It's not just Flicka, it's Flicka on T.V.

I remember when televisions had knobs and dials... and only a few channels... which signed off at night...

So wonderful. So you were 7? 8? What is it about drawings done at that age that makes them so immediately appealing and lively? TV's have always been fun to draw. The knobs and stuff. I love the tiny legs holding up the TV. And you would know it was a horse immediately even though horse's legs are cut off (that must have been an interesting problem to run into at that age--it would have made me really mad), and even without the "FLICKA" title.

wasn't life simpler when we only had a few channels to choose from?
