Snake Birds!

Lake Balboa is teeming with bird life right now, I think they must have stocked it again. I always think these cormorants look like snake birds. A little splash by a pelican in lower right.

Odd that both this post and the last post had pictures of pelicans...

Yep, the cormorants look snake like. I wonder if you can train them to do the snake charmer act?

I couldn't figure what that pelican was doing in the other picture.

It's really cool to watch a big group of them when they all dive in unison, not diving from the sky, but diving in the water as they're swimming in a pod.

Ugh. Cormorant poo. Train them to eat something besides fish. Soybeans perhaps?

Lake Balboa must be a great place to walk. We see pelicans when we're on the beach, but I never knew how BIG they are until we were sitting in Louis' (by the Cliff House) and a group flew RIGHT OUTSIDE our window.

I'm going to have to shoot a video of the wild pelican ballet-like moves. It's been pretty foggy all week, and it's weird walking amidst so many people after our couple of months of solitude.

When we lived in St. Pete Beach we called the pelicans the old men. I love to watch them soaring at low altitude. It looks impossible.

I'm going to Pelican country tomorrow, Naples, Florida.

Oooo, I love Naples. Have fun.
