yeah

Well I just spoke to my mother and she's sitting on a bench in Princeton. She said she hopes it'll be a lot more fun when I graduate- it's really supposed to be fun, but they're bringing all the mothers in in wheelbarrows and the sons aren't happy about it. Anyway, I'm supposed to meet her at the yacht house gate tonight between 5 and 7.

As I've said before, it's not easy hearing a loved one talking nonsense. It gives me a weird mix of feelings: disbelief (You can't be serious!?) confusion (Who ARE you?), sadness (what happened to the mom I knew?) frustration/worry (How long will she be this way? I wish I could make her understand what's going on.) and occasional fascination and even mirth (like the infamous time she was at the hospital and kept insisting we "go down to the casino and get some drinks".)

Namowal, you describe it all so exactly. And your mother is so much younger, geez. At least she's mostly come out of it, right?

Hi Sally,

I'd say she doesn't get completely confused as to what's going on, but she's moody, doesn't follow doctors orders, gives my dad a hard time, and for the last several months, she's had trouble speaking- what she wants to say and what she actually says are very different.
That being said, her video poker skills seem unaffected and she still gets Royal Flushes.

Namowal and Sally, do your mothers still show a bit of the spark of who they are inside? I was thinking about how we all look in a mirror and see an aging person, but feel the same inside as we always have. That is who we are--not the aging body. At least, that is my opinion. Just wondering if your mothers can still be seen in there somewhere.

Pat says he's ready for his Avatar body now. I wonder if something is happening at the facility like a planned activity, or is dinner between 5 and 7? Also sometimes I wondered if Dad thought something on TV was really happening.

Hi prb,
In my case, my mom shows the "spark" you speak of mostly when greeting me (in person or on the phone). She's as happy to see me as always. I appreciate that.
