Autumn Charm

The changing season seems especially pretty this year, with more reds and oranges than I remember seeing last year. These pictures are from this morning. By afternoon a big thunderstorm had hit, with hail on the porch and ice sheets crashing off the roof.

I took an English riding lesson yesterday. After not riding for more than a year, I am SO SORE today and grabbing for the advil. But it was a great feeling to be on a horse again.

Early fall is a nice time of the year. Not too hot or chilly, rainbow leaves, and it's still light at five p.m.
Have you taken English riding lessons before? By English do you mean holding the reins with each hands instead of with one? I took some horseback riding lessons about ten years ago and was taught both Western(?) and English. Not that I'm a pro at either, of course. A good day for me is when I don't fall off the horse.

That red hat looks great in the landscape.

Is English riding harder? I looked it up and it said that the equipment allows the horse to move more efficiently. I can't believe it's been over a year since you've ridden! Will you go again before your trip?

These are great pictures. They even look crisp.

These landscapes are beautiful; I want to paint them.

Namowal, I've always ridden English except for the occasional trail ride while on vacation. The saddle is smaller, you have two reins, and you're in contact with the horse's mouth all the time through the reins. Even though it looks like the horse is the only one getting exercise, it's a real workout. You post during the trot, and keep your legs squeeed against the horse's side. I'm going to take another lesson on Friday.

I read it as you grabbed the anvil at first glance. I was like why would Sally grab an anvil?

Fall is my favorite time of the year.

Grabbing for the anvil- that's funny. Autumn is nice everywhere except maybe in Southern California where you're always watching for those crazy Santa Ana winds and FIRE.
