On the S.S. Xmas

Today when I called my mother she said "I'm back on the ocean."

We talked about that a while, and I tried to steer the boat elsewhere by saying we were decorating our tree. She said, "Oh we had a big Xmas party on the ship yesterday but the staff was running around snatching people's presents. Then they gave us castor oil."

Not sure this is the ship we want to be on.

Reading these posts I feel that I understand your mom so well, and that much of what she says makes so much sense, just a different kind of sense.

Sally, you write well about this, and evenly. But it only increases my distrust of doctors and hospitals. From anesthesia to dementia. I keep hoping her body will produce an anti-anesthesia that will right the ship and calm the waves. You don't need to hear that it's sad, but it is, and I'm sorry. I hope your mother is able to make some sense (without panic)of what's going on in her, around her....Kate

It's tough to hear your mom talking nonsense (I speak from experience). I wonder what makes her interpret her surroundings as a ship?
